It's been quite a while since I’ve written and I have much to share about my life in these islands. For the past couple of weeks, as I do every year, I have been taking part in the Chinese New Year celebrations Downtown (my neighborhood).


May Day is Lei Day and the Aloha Spirit

In 1929, Lei Day became an official holiday in Hawaii, and today on Oahu there is an annual festival held at Kapiolani Park, where an amazing array of leis are on display for competition in various categories. You’ll find haku leis (the photo above), leis for your wrists, and of course the traditional lei worn around the neck.
